If the senior cat sits on her pillow on the couch -- yes, she has a dedicated pillow on the couch, right in the middle, and when you're her levels of age and infirmity, you are entitled to a dedicated pillow on the couch too -- then a human will probably sit down next to her, especially during designated television hours, and scratch her chin and jaw.

On the other hand, if she lies flat on her side in an arc around the oscillating fan, she gets maximum breeze coverage on her belly.

The problem is, the sofa and the floor by the fan are in no way adjacent. Her ideal, of course, would be to have a human stoop down in front of the fan and scratch her chin while she absorbs the breeze.

Tonight is the first of the Fireworks of Adjacent Municipalities. None of them wants to do their fireworks on 4 July because the Boston fireworks are kind of a big deal and anyone who can stand the crowds and such will go there to see them. You can't compete with that. So they have their fireworks a few days before or a few days after. Tonight is Somerville's. It rained earlier today but that's stopped now and I'm told it's still on. We don't live in Somerville anymore, but they set off their fireworks over a large softball field that's two streets away, so we can get a good view from our back yard if we're inclined -- or, if you don't mind craning your neck a little, even out the upstairs office window.

I'm not so much into it, myself. I think I've had my lifetime quota of fireworks.

I finished the little four-page story I'm holding in reserve with some other material as a present to the DA folks in mid-July, since Sleeper Squad 59's going to be a disappointment to them. Unlike some of the other stuff, which I won't put anywhere but DA, this story will probably get cross-posted -- at least to this site, if not to AO3 -- and you'll be able to see it even if you don't do DA.

Meanwhile, tomorrow is the first of July, which means I can finally get the aforementioned Sleeper Squad out the door. A couple of people are on the edges of their seats, but not many.
